What’s a good password?
- Don’t pick one of the most common 500, such as names, curse words, 123456, letmein, etc.
- Come up with a good “personal algorithm“. It will be easy for you to remember but very hard to guess.
Is it true I should change my password every 30 seconds and should be 147 characters long?
- No, that advice just makes people write down their unrememberable passwords.
What threats are real and what are imaginary?
- If you throw away an old PC, remember that it’s easy to get information from your old hard drive, even if you “deleted” it. On the plus side, there’s probably no one hovering by the curb on trash day, waiting to take the old PC. A quick fix is to mangle the hard drive cable connector when you’re throwing it out.
Are laptops safe?
- Not really.
- Password protect them with a screen autolock.
- They’re small, valuable, and swipeable.
My PC is acting up, what do I do?
- Talk to a friend who loves fixing this stuff.
- Don’t click on the “Click here to fix this” popup from the virus creator.
- Run your Antivirus software.
- Run your other Anti-malware sofware.
- Call in the professionals.
